The Mandalorian (2019) – Episode 4

From IMDB: “The Mandalorian teams up with an ex-soldier to protect a village from raiders.”

What I liked:

  • Oh hey, it’s the Seven Samurai episode. For those who don’t know what Seven Samurai is, it’s an almost 4 hour Japanese action drama from the 50’s about a village hiring some Samurai to help them defeat some bandits. Sound familiar? It should, it’s been remade three times as the Western the Magnificent Seven (two as a movie, once as a tv show), as well as the Disney/Pixar film A Bug’s Life and has been borrowed from countless times by other shows and movies including Army of Darkness. It’s an amazing piece of cinema.
  • Oh hey, it’s mixed martial arts trailblazer (and all time celebrity crush) Gina Carano.
  • We learn a wee-bit more about the Mandalorians as a tribe.

What I didn’t like:

  • Did they really do the “No, you stay here” to the baby or animal trope? We all know what happens next, right? The baby or animal follows the person that tells it to stay. Ugh. Look, I enjoy the show for the most part, but man does it resort to some lazy cliches.

Overall: Gina Carano.
