Stranger Things 2 (tv)

Oh hai, Encino Man’s Sean Astin. Starts off slow (because it now has to expand and spin multiple story arcs), but wraps up quite nicely. The kid who plays Will is a pretty damn good actor. We didn’t see enough of him in season 1 cuz…well……………….he was missing. Duh. New characters are introduced, while someContinue reading “Stranger Things 2 (tv)”

The Tick (tv) (season 1)

The Tick and his related universe of absurdity is something that I’ve enjoyed for over 20 years in different forms. My first exposure was via a Saturday-morning animated series on Fox (which was based on a late-80’s comic of the same name). After that came a truly horrible video game based on that cartoon BUTContinue reading “The Tick (tv) (season 1)”

Atlanta (tv) (season 1)

a ten episode progressive half-hour comedy-drama that’s expertly written. The story winds and wraps up very nicely but still leaves things open. Multi-dimensional characters, including one incredible standout in Lakeith Stanfield. Possibly the SMARTEST tv show I’ve ever seen. The show takes some absurd twists in serious fashions and I love absurd things played completelyContinue reading “Atlanta (tv) (season 1)”

Voltron: Legendary Defender (tv) (season 3)

Note: this was a SUPER quick lunch break review that I did on my phone right after finishing season 3, so I’m just sharing that screencap because the text perfectly encapsulates my thoughts on it. Ducktales (tv) (2017)

First things first: I haven’t watched the original “Ducktales” cartoon in DECADES. Sometimes, things like movies, cartoons and music don’t hold up to our cynical adult views, and it’s best to leave them in the past with our youthful innocence. But that doesn’t mean you can’t turn that thirst for nostalgia into a much more richContinue reading “Ducktales (tv) (2017)”

GLOW (tv): a Female’s Perspective

As a product of the 70’s and 80’s, there really wasn’t too much going on except for the Saturday Morning cartoon. I was way too young to understand SNL and was pretty much stuck watching Lawrence Welk (bubbles and accordion music, oh my). One day, my mom introduced something magical to my brother and I. Gorgeous LadiesContinue reading “GLOW (tv): a Female’s Perspective”

GLOW (tv): a Male’s Perspective

Full disclosure: I LOVE pro wrestling. Before you roll your eyes, just be aware that this GLOW tv show is based ON A REAL THING. A real thing that my Mom watched, and made my Sister and I watch with her. Our Mom introduced us to pro wrestling through that original GLOW, meaning I haveContinue reading “GLOW (tv): a Male’s Perspective”

Castlevania (tv)

An adaptation of a long-running video game franchise released on the first Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1986, and heavily influenced by Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Check out that kick-ass intro! written by Warren Ellis, a writer who over the last 10 years (when I first became a fan), has written some great comics, someContinue reading “Castlevania (tv)”
