Shin Godzilla

I wouldn’t call myself a “fan” of Godzilla or the movies. I think the concept is cool, and the character is cool, but I don’t rush out to see or rent movies based on him. Having said that… There’s a new look to the creature, and I really enjoyed it. Feels like something more realistic.Continue reading “Shin Godzilla”

Castlevania (tv)

An adaptation of a long-running video game franchise released on the first Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1986, and heavily influenced by Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Check out that kick-ass intro! written by Warren Ellis, a writer who over the last 10 years (when I first became a fan), has written some great comics, someContinue reading “Castlevania (tv)”

Alien: Covenant

It’s great to see my second favorite movie monster, the “Xenomorph” (that’s the name of the actual “alien” for those unfamiliar) again, even if it is for a short time. The orchestral score by Jed Kurzel is very good. And so’s the cinematography by Dariusz Wolski. Hey, Guy Pearce! There are a few sequences inContinue reading “Alien: Covenant”

The Terminator Tech Noir Shootout

The coordination of this scene is IMPECCABLE, and is a masterclass in editing: – Sarah ducking at the last moment. – The slow motion dancing (and MAN I LOVE that song). – The slow motion meeting of eyes with Kyle Reese. – ALL THE SLOW MOTION. – The dance music fading into terror as theContinue reading “The Terminator Tech Noir Shootout”

Get Out

– Written and directed by the same Jordan Peele from “Key & Peele”. – One of best written screenplays I’ve heard in a long while. – Peele’s direction is as TIGHT as his script. This is a very suspenseful film channeling the very best of Alfred Hitchcock, but with more social commentary (like the appropriationContinue reading “Get Out”

Gravity Falls (tv)

– A truly fantastic show / mini-series. – Proof that long-form storytelling can be a great way for your characters and story to breath and grow, but there should ALWAYS be an ending. “All good things must come to an end”, as the cliche goes. – Well-developed characters dealing with very human emotions. – AContinue reading “Gravity Falls (tv)”
