GLOW (tv): a Male’s Perspective

Full disclosure: I LOVE pro wrestling. Before you roll your eyes, just be aware that this GLOW tv show is based ON A REAL THING. A real thing that my Mom watched, and made my Sister and I watch with her. Our Mom introduced us to pro wrestling through that original GLOW, meaning I haveContinue reading “GLOW (tv): a Male’s Perspective”

Spider-Man: Homecoming

There will NEVER be a better Spider-Man film than Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2”. You remember that one, right? Tobey Maquire? Alfred Molina as “Doc Ock”? THAT ENDING. THAT DOC OCK CREATION SCENE.┬áTHAT ELEVATED TRAIN SEQUENCE? THE HEART AT THE CENTER OF THAT STORY???┬áThat FILM WAS SO PERFECT, the reigning film critics of that era (whoContinue reading “Spider-Man: Homecoming”

Baby Driver

The main story line is heavily cliched, but the dialog is not. The pacing is pretty slow, but then again, I have a TERRIBLE attention span. Felt a little long, with a long-winded ending. It’s great to see REAL cars (not computer graphic cars) doing REAL driving stunts. It’s too bad the quick editing diminishesContinue reading “Baby Driver”

Cars 3

The first Cars movie came out when my Daughter was two, and it was the first movie I took her to see in the theater; so there’s an emotional connection to this series that she’s grown up with, from her (obviously) to me watching her grow with it. There’s a tradition with the three CarsContinue reading “Cars 3”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

– Is only 15 minutes longer than the first BUT it feels much longer due to their being multiple subplots that slow down the middle of the movie. They eventually get resolved (and resolved greatly) but this one definitely felt longer to me. – Every main character (including some supporting ones from the first movie)Continue reading “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”

The Fate of the Furious

– I’ve watched most of this series with my Dad, and I think he would’ve enjoyed this one (even if it is a bit long [seriously, can they STOP making action movies so dang long? This one is ALMOST THREE HOURS]). – An extremely entertaining movie in an always entertaining series. – There were rumorsContinue reading “The Fate of the Furious”

Kong: Skull Island

– Genre mashups are hard to pull off successfully. Action-horror hybrids (like Underworld and the Resident Evils) and action-comedies (like the 21 Jump Street series) are constantly being churned out, but it’s usually just those two. Horror-comedies tend tend to age better, but studios don’t make those very much. This movie is a war-action-horror-comedy &Continue reading “Kong: Skull Island”

on Scott Pilgrim and CONSEQUENCES

Sometimes, movies have messages that you might not see initially. Welcome to “Special”, where we highlight that subtext and help you see your favorite movies in new, refreshing ways. – I was having a conversation the other day with my friend Peter, and he did not like that the Teacher in “Whiplash” [SPOILER] did notContinue reading “on Scott Pilgrim and CONSEQUENCES”
