Ready or Not

From IMDB: “A bride’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.”

What I Liked:

  • The dialog in this movie is top-notch. Sharp, with a strong cadence and a biting wit. My favorite dialog of any movie this year.
  • Some of the characters have mannerisms or personality tics that felt so real, so normal. It helped me connect to the movie even more.
  • I really enjoyed the camera work in this movie, and felt that each shot had a specific purpose.
  • The production design was fantastic, and the camera work I just mentioned really let us be in the gothic mansion the movie takes place in.
  • The movie is a black/dark comedy, similar to films like Heathers, In Bruges and Dr. Strangelove, but as a horror film.
  • This movie and Crawl really put their main characters through the ringer, which is what is supposed to be happening. We need to see our main characters get beat up, either physically or emotionally, in order for us to have a good, triumphant ending.
  • The whole movie was pretty smart, and poked some fun at the Wealthy/Upper Class.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The origin story of why this family played these game confused me, especially since two characters within that story had similar last names.

Overall: A very enjoyable movie with biting wit and fun characters.
